Earth’s ‘wobble’ means your zodiac sign may be wrong

By Liz Goodwin | US News – The Lookout – Thu, 13 Jan 12:57 PM ESTA Minnesota astronomer confirms what many have suspected: Your horoscope is quite possibly wrong.

Earth’s shifts on its axis over the past 3,000 years have changed the 12 zodiac signs. For example, think your sign is Aquarius? You may be a Pisces. (There’s also a 13th sign, Ophiuchus, that’s based on a constellation the ancient Babylonians threw out for symmetry thousands of years ago.)

So who’s to blame for this scam on zodiac devotees?

The ancient Babylonians based the zodiac on which constellation the sun appeared to be in when a person was born. Since then, the moon’s has exerted a gravitation pull on Earth, causing a “wobble” on its axis that has shifted the stars’ alignment by about a month, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.

“Because of this change in the tilt, the Earth is over here and the sun is in a different constellation than it was 3,000 years ago when this study of the stars began,” astronomer Parke Kunkle told the Twin Cities’ KARE-TV.

The shift isn’t new, Kunkle says — the zodiac world just hasn’t taken the wobble into account.

Okay, I’m back. I find this unbelievably tragic. There are thousands, maybe even millions of people dialed into their horoscopes, reading with rapt wonder each day as their ditty “describes them to a tee.” Making decisions based on what they read. Finding their place in the universe, decreed by the stars themselves, no less. Their friends jump on the bandwagon, too:

“Oh, you’re such a Pisces, it’s incredible.”

“I know, right?”

Except, many of these folks have been reading the wrong horoscope all their lives. Which means they might as well have been reading from the phone book. Which proves beyond a shadow of a doubt (again) that horoscopes are nothing more than standardized, self-fulfilling prophecies marketed to people who long to figure out who they are.

Me? As imperfect and human as I am, my true self “is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3,3), not in the cosmos. I’m not just one of twelve signs—I’m “created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). My mission and purpose aren’t doled out a day at a time in the daily paper, they’ve been written in God’s book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16). I’m not born to fit a human mold. I am “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for (me) to do” (Ephesians 2:10). I don’t consult the stars, I “walk in the light, as he is in the light” (I John 1:7). I don’t live in sync with the constellations. I “keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25).

And now, more than ever, I know why.
