My friend, author / speaker / superwoman Mary DeMuth, likes to pose a question in her workshops:

What are your favorite three movies?

While you think of yours, here are mine:

1. The Matrix (the first in the trilogy)

2. Gladiator

3. Last of the Mohicans

Next, she asks,

What is the common thematic thread running through each of these choices?

There may be more than one. Again, I’ll go first.

All three movies are about a noble hero. All three movies involve heroic, sacrificial love stories. All three movies unfold against the backdrop of a world that’s gone to hell in a handbasket, with heroes that stick to their guns anyway. All three movies’ heroes find unshakeable nobility in their identity. All three movies’ causes are worth dying for.

Lastly, she asks,

What does this say about you?

As in, your own identity, the way God has hardwired your own heart.

Me? I don’t shrink from doing the right thing in the heat of battle, because I know who I am and believe in my life’s mission. I love romancing my wife. Speaking of romance, you may want to check out my previous post, “Kong on Romancing the Heart of a Woman.” That’d be King Kong.

What about you? Try it, then share your discoveries with us.
