Okay, so I woke up this morning, asked God what to blog about, and he brought to mind this verse: “In him we live, move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). And I have no idea where this is going. I’m going to type as God prompts me to do so.

First of all, what does this verse mean to you? Speak up, I’m sensing that you’re part of this post.

For my part, I sense here an invitation, though with some deep sadness. This verse should define us, and yet so many people — even Christians — blunder through their days and minutes and hours as though God is far off, that all our motion is a lonely flailing in the dark, and our identity gets lost somewhere in that futile flailing.

So…

Do I live IN him, or just FOR him?
Do I just MOVE, or am I being MOVED?
At the end of the day, do I have my BEING, or do I just have my DOING?

In him, to him, through him.
In him, to him, through him.
In him, to him, through him.
READ IT AGAIN.
In him, to him, through him.

May all my motion be in his grace & truth & power. May my whole identity be wrapped up in him. IN HIM, TO HIM, THROUGH HIM. In him I live, move, have my being. May this verse become my mission statement. May my life be in him. May all my motion spring naturally from from that life. May my whole identity come from that life, that motion, in him. Period.
