Yesterday I challenged our congregation with a question:
If God never spoke to you again…
Never did anything wonderful in your life…
Never answered a single prayer…
Never made his Word feel alive when you studied it…
Never gave you strength…
Never did a miracle…
Never gave you goosebumps…
Never filled you with joy…
Never did anything that registered even just a tiny blip on your radar…
Ever again…
Could you look back at what he did on the cross, point to that, and say, “It’s still worth it”?
And mean it?
yes it is still worth it, because I know he hears prayers and answers them and IF there was a time of silence there must be a reason for it.
Or worse… what if God crushes you, kills your dreams, saps your strength, fills you with sorrow… Can you say “Though He slay me, yet I will trust in Him”. In fact, maybe that isn’t worse. At least you’d know God was doing *something*. Perhaps doing nothing is worse.
Now we’re getting somewhere. 🙂 I spoke with someone recently who said, “Why should I follow Jesus and put in all this effort? He never does anything for me.” It really made me think. Glad to see it’s paying things forward.
Agreed.
But even if there wasn’t, the cross is still enough, giving up his Son is enough. Thank you, Jesus.
I thought this was a wonderful question to ask, It really made me think. Does my human nature want to hear from God by miracles and goosebumps, yes I do. But the amazing thing was when I became a Christian, not knowing about prayer and miracles. The thing that did it for me was hearing that Jesus died for our sins, so yes it was and is enough. I enjoy knowing God is there with me by little or big signs, but if it disappeared I can remember that first time I registered his love for us.
Amen. Well put, sister. Have a great day!
