For the past month or so Shauna has been taking a cake decorating course, leaving me and the kids with a free evening together. We’ve been painting, and it’s been so therapeutic for my soul. There’s something about pouring yourself out while losing yourself in something else. Something that can’t talk back. Something that’s all yours. And when the inspiration translates into something I can take pleasure in… well, what a gift to my heart. So here’s the first serious piece I’ve produced in probably fifteen years. It’s called “Downstream.” When I paint stuff like this, I feel myself becoming a better man—centred, peaceful, rested, whole.
What do you do to restore yourself?
Beautiful. I like to bake. Cakes especially. Very restorative both to the soul and the belly.
Mmmmmm… And baking is a gift to others.
I write to relax and restore my heart and my new thing is quilting. Made three so far one was a queen size for my counselor… I hope he appreciates it, and two others for our son and daughter *Christmas presents.
It is rewarding to do something from your heart. I used to paint and draw. Maybe I should try that again. LOVE your painting.
Thanks for sharing! Sounds relaxing.
Brad, I love to write poetry when I find I have time to think, dream, let the words come. My usual work involves academic and journal(ism) type writing, so to just sit…and be creative in a different way…restores my soul. And I’m working through Piano for Dummies! Music refuels me, too. Solitude. Silence.
Hi, sister. I didn’t know you wrote poetry. Thanks for sharing that.
Blogging refreshes me and going to the beach with my family.
Awesome painting Brad!!
I like to take out my camera and shoot anything and everything and just get creative.
